Woman dies after Vancouver e-scooter crash

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says a 30-year-old woman who was badly hurt in an electric scooter crash has tragically died.

Police say she was struck by a vehicle near Commercial and Venables around 10 a.m. July 3, and she succumbed to her injuries in hospital on Saturday.

“The scooter operator was travelling westbound on Venables Street when she collided with the side of a vehicle,” the VPD said.

“The woman struck her head on the ground, and the driver of the vehicle stopped immediately.”

Police say the woman was conscious as she was taken to hospital.

This incident comes after a separate e-scooter crash in Coal Harbour over the weekend landed a 54-year-old woman in hospital with a head injury and broken collarbone.

Investigators say neither victim was wearing a helmet. They are reminding riders this is against the law.
