Burnaby RCMP investigating sexual assault, suspicious person reports

The RCMP says it is investigating a sexual assault near Burnaby’s Royal Oak SkyTrain Station last week.

Police say a woman was walking alone around 11:30 p.m. July 9 when she was grabbed from behind.

“An altercation ensued,” Mounties said.

“The victim resisted and screamed, which caused the suspect to stop.”

Around half an hour later, police say they received a report of a suspicious man outside a ground-floor apartment in the same area.

“We cannot currently say for certain if the two incidents are related; however, we are asking anyone who saw the suspicious man in the second incident or witnessed the first incident to please come forward and speak to our investigators,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj.

“Our officers continue to canvass the area for video, so if you have captured an image or video from your doorbell camera or dashcam video, we would like to hear from you.”

No injuries have been reported in either incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and refer to file 2026-23973.
