Environment Canada issues air quality alert for Fraser Canyon

Environment Canada and the B.C. Ministry of Environment and Parks have jointly issued an air quality warning for the Fraser Canyon, including Lytton.

The warning is a level “Yellow,” which means that the impact level is “moderate.”

The air quality warning, issued Sunday, is due to the wildfire smoke in the area.

Regions of B.C. that are expected to be impacted by the warning for the next 24-48 hours:

  • Fort Nelson
  • B.C. Peace River
  • Fraser Canyon
  • South Thompson
  • Kootenay Lake
  • East Kootenay (South including Cranbrook)

The agencies report that the smoke will move south through the Peace region.

Winds will change the direction of the smoke and change quickly over short distances, hour by hour.
