A Williams Lake man has been charged under British Columbia’s Motor Vehicle Act following a fatal collision near Lytton last summer.
The crash occurred on Aug. 14, 2025, when a black Ford SUV and a grey GMC pickup collided on Highway 1. The collision killed two people and injured four others. Both vehicles were destroyed in a fire that resulted from the crash.
The BC Highway Patrol assumed conduct of the investigation and later submitted its findings to the BC Prosecution Service for charge assessment.
Police say that on Aug. 6, 2026, 44-year-old Joel Chenier was charged with driving without due care and attention.
According to investigators, three of the injured individuals and one of the two people who died were occupants of Chenier’s vehicle.
Chenier is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 15.
