Alleged intoxicated driver speeds by police, loses his car: BCHP

An allegedly intoxicated driver of a Corvette lost his car to impound after speeding by BC Highway Patrol (BCHP).

On Sept. 26 around 8:30 a.m., the driver passed a BCHP officer on Highway 6 in Coldstream.

According to BCHP, the radar reading revealed that the driver was going 120 km/h in an 80 zone.

The officer activated his lights and siren and followed the Corvette but according to BCHP the driver was “oblivious” to traffic pulling over for police lights and sirens and instead accelerated into the open roadway.

The 55-year-old Coldstream man continued to go speeds upwards of 120 km/h even when the speed limit changed to 50 km/h, says BCHP.

Police say the man eventually stopped at a mini mall once he realized that BCHP were attempting to pull him over.

The man went under two Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) tests and both registered as a “fail.”

His driver’s license was immediately seized.

The man was also issued the following:

  • A 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition,
  • A 30-day notice of impoundment for the 2025 Corvette,
  • A violation ticket for excessive speed for $368

BCHP says that the driver will also face fees for impound, administrative fees, high-risk driver premiums and a license reinstatement fee.

Total costs to the alleged impaired driver will be at least $2,400.
